What would your customer need to see to believe you?

A promise becomes easier to assess when customers can see how it works, under what conditions, and with what limitations.

Choosing a demonstration starts with the uncertainty we want to address.

From assertion to observation

“Fast,” “durable,” and “easy to use” describe benefits but leave questions open. Fast compared with what? Resistant to which stress? Easy for whom? A useful demonstration allows the viewer to examine part of the answer.

Range Rover’s 2018 Dragon Challenge placed vehicle capability in a visible setting: a route on Tianmen Mountain and a climb up 999 steps, with a professional driver. The official source documents the challenge. It does not establish a sales effect here. The case gives us a way to examine the relationship between a promise and the evidence chosen to support it. Spectacle needs relevance

A software buyer may care about export accuracy, setup time, and exception handling. A dramatic interface montage may attract interest without answering any of those questions.

We start with sales conversations, objections, and reasons for delay. If the uncertainty concerns implementation, we demonstrate implementation. If it concerns the output, we show the output and its verification. We choose the format after choosing the question.

A comparison people can examine

Suppose a tool promises faster document processing. We would compare the same type of task, equivalent inputs, and a shared completion standard. The timer would include checks and error correction. We would separate setup time from operating time while reporting both.

A single favorable result does not describe every use case. We would test difficult examples, explain selection, and show where human intervention remains necessary. Readers can then judge whether their situation resembles the demonstration.

Evidence can have several layers

An ad excerpt can communicate the question and one observation. On the destination page, the full demonstration explains the process. For commercial evaluation, a pilot can use a prospect’s actual circumstances under agreed conditions.

These layers must remain consistent. If an ad omits an essential condition to make the result more impressive, it changes the meaning of the demonstration. Creative production can simplify the presentation while retaining conditions that determine the outcome.

What we would do

We would list commercial claims and identify the available evidence, required test, and limitations for each. Some claims can be demonstrated immediately. Others need to be narrowed or withdrawn. This exercise can improve the offer as well as the promotional materials.

We would then assess product understanding and progress toward a suitable purchase. A demonstration may reduce unsuitable inquiries while making the remaining conversations more productive. That can be valuable even when total inquiry volume falls.

Strategy selects the uncertainty worth reducing. Creativity finds a compelling way to make it observable. Measurement helps us assess whether the demonstration supports a better buying decision.
